Vauxhall Zafira 1.9L diesel engine was turbocharged and works on the common rail fuel injection system; it was developed by Fiat multijet and Opel performance centre also contributed in engine development. They developed a turbocharged 240 hp 2.0L version of Zafira engines for the generation-B.
The third generation of Zafira engines was previewed in 2011 models when the Zafira concept was presented in Geneva motor Show 2011 in Switzerland. All engines came with six speed manual gearboxes as standard but the 1.8L was with five speed transmission. Automatic gearboxes were optional in the 1.4T and 2.0CDTI engines. An EcoFLEX version of 2.0CDTI engine was available on sale in 2012 along with the start/stop system to make it more economical CO2 vehicle emitting 119gm/km.
