Vauxhall Zafira Engine History

Vauxhall started its production of Zafira models in 1999 and is sold in the UK under the name of Vauxhall Zafira. It has seen three generations till date, Zafira engines are categorised in A, B and C generations.

Vauxhall Zafira Generation-A Engines

The Zafira A was the part of Vauxhall Zafira first generation. It was the customary of Opel models developed with the aid of Porsche and launched in 1999 and remained in production till 2005. This generation included 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L turbocharged, 2.0L and 2.2L diesel engines. These Zafira engines were conventional inline units without all-wheel drive technology.

Vauxhall Zafira Generation-B Engines

Vauxhall Zafira B generation made its debut in the UK markets in 2004 and they started selling Zafira models in 2005 in the UK. This generation shared mechanical parts and platform with the Astra H/C model. The engines were used in this generation from 1.6L to 2.2L and some of those were turbocharged along with the automatic and manual transmissions with six speed and five speed mechanisms. Vauxhall Zafira 1.9L diesel engine was turbocharged and works on the common rail fuel injection system; it was developed by Fiat multijet and Opel performance centre also contributed in engine development. They developed a turbocharged 240 hp 2.0L version of Zafira engines for the generation-B.

Vauxhall Zafira Generation-C Engines

The third generation of Zafira engines was previewed in 2011 models when the Zafira concept was presented in Geneva motor Show 2011 in Switzerland. All engines came with six speed manual gearboxes as standard but the 1.8L was with five speed transmission. Automatic gearboxes were optional in the 1.4T and 2.0CDTI engines. An EcoFLEX version of 2.0CDTI engine was available on sale in 2012 along with the start/stop system to make it more economical CO2 vehicle emitting 119gm/km.
