The diesel engines included 1.7L diesel, 1.7L turbo diesel and 1.7L Isuzu engine.
In the fourth generation, the Vauxhall Astra Ecotec range included both 8V and 16V engines. Vauxhall Astra 1.6L 8v engine gave 101 bhp, while the 1.8L and 2.2L engines produced 120bhp and 147bhp respectively. The diesel variants included 1.7L CDTi engine with 100bhp and a 2.0L DTi. The engines from the fifth generation carried over but the body was tweaked and new trim levels introduced. All of them were powered by the same units from the last generation. The VXR in sports-hatch became the most popular. Vauxhall Astra VXR engine is a 2.0L turbocharged unit with 236bhp.
This is the seventh generation of the Astra. The VVT technology was implemented to improve efficiency and fuel consumption. The Astra petrol engines included a 1.3L 16v VVT with 85bhp and 113bhp. It returns 130Nm of torque and the turbo version gives the output of 138bhp and 200Nm of torque. There is also a Vauxhall Astra 1.6L turbo 16v engine with 113bhp or 177bhp. The Vauxhall Astra 1.3L CDTi engine has been discontinued.
